Builders

Message Builder

Composing a message's content, embeds, and interactive components.

Any Action that sends or edits a message (Send Message, Edit Message, Reply to Interaction...) uses the same Message Builder: plain text content, up to 10 embeds, interactive components (buttons, select menus) that trigger their own Events when used, and a poll.

The window

On the left, the message's parts: the text, the embeds, the rows of components with their buttons, the poll. Click a part to edit it in the middle; Add, at the bottom, or the + links under each group create one. Drag a part to reorder it, a button from one row to another. On the right, the preview: click a part to edit it, and drag its edge to widen it. What Discord would refuse is dashed in red there.

Each change goes into the draft right away. At the bottom, how many errors and warnings, and Next to go to the next one; Cancel puts the message back as it was when you opened it, Done closes.

An embed is laid out in folding parts: Content, Fields, Images, Author, Footer. Folded, each part says what it holds.

Formatting

The message text, an embed's description and a field's value accept all of Discord's Markdown: headings, lists, quotes, code blocks, masked links, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoiler, code. An embed's title and a field's name only accept text formatting (bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoiler, code): each field's toolbar only offers what Discord shows there. An embed's footer and author stay plain text. The preview shows the result.

Each field shows its character limit, and its error right under it when there is one.

Poll

Add ▸ Poll adds a native Discord poll to a new message (Send Message, Reply to Interaction, Send DM): a question, up to 10 answers with an emoji each if you like, a duration (one hour to two weeks), and whether members can pick several answers. The question and answers take expressions. Members vote right in Discord; an edited message can't get a poll.

Among the Action's options: Silent message (no notification), Hide link previews, and Files, images or files attached by their https address (or an attachment received, like a command's file option), 10 at most, 8 MB each.

Mentions

A member or role mention you write in the message notifies, even when its id comes from an expression (<@{{ … }}>). A mention inside an inserted value never does, and @everyone and @here only notify when you write them and the Action's Allow @everyone and @here option is on: a Blueprint that repeats what a member wrote can't make the bot ping anyone. See Expressions.
